NORTHRIDGE, California – CSUN won its 13
th-straight game as it completed a sweep of HBU with a 7-2 victory in non-conference baseball Sunday afternoon at Matador Field.
Junior rightfielder
Brandon Brintz went 2-for-3 for HBU (10-10), while junior leftfielder
Brandon Morones and junior catcher
Blake Thomas each drove in runs. Senior first baseman
Justin Monsour doubled and scored, while senior second baseman
Greg Espinosa singled and scored.
Yusuke Akithoshi went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice for CSUN (18-3), while Fred Smith went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 21 games and scored twice. Dylan Alexander went 2-for-2 with an RBI, Bobby Schuman drove in a pair of runs and Nolan Bumstead doubled and scored twice for the Matadors.
Andrew Weston (4-1) earned the win for CSUN, shutting HBU out on two hits with three strikeouts in five innings of relief. Matadors starter Joe Ryan gave up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in four innings.
Junior
JT Jakubik (0-2) took the loss for HBU, allowing five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 4.2 innings.
