Live StatsGame NotesHOUSTON – HBU women's basketball will look to get back on the winning side with a three-game home stand, beginning Monday at 7 p.m. against McNeese State from Sharp Gym.
McNeese State leads the all-time series, 4-2, as the two teams each won a game last season. The Cowgirls won in Lake Charles, 60-57, on Jan. 5, and HBU knocked off McNeese in the SLC Quarterfinals, 70-68, on March 12 in Katy, Texas, behind
Anna Strickland's 16 points, five blocked shots, and a career-high 20 rebounds.
HBU (5-6 overall, 0-1 SLC) remained winless in Southland Conference opening games (0-3), following a 55-44 defeat at Northwestern State Saturday. Strickland continues to lead the SLC - and is T-6th nationally - with 12.7 rebounds per game. She is ninth in the conference in scoring with 13.6 points per game and second with 1.5 blocked shots per contest. Her string of consecutive double-doubles were halted Saturday at four games, as she had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Monet Neal, who dropped a team-high 14 points against the Lady Demons, is second on the team with 12.0 points per game and is tied with
Rachel Arthur for the team lead in field-goal percentage (50.0). As a team, HBU is shooting 40 percent from the floor compared to 41 percent for its opponents.
After starting the season 5-1, McNeese State (8-5, 0-1) has gone 3-4 in its last seven games. The Cowgirls opened conference play with an 80-55 road loss to Stephen F. Austin. Jayln Johnson and Allison Baggett are 1-2 in scoring, averaging 11.9 and 11.8 points per game, respectively. They and Amber Donnes are three-point threats, with all three hitting greater than 35 percent from beyond the arc. Jasmyn Carswell averages a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game and has a team-high seven blocks. The Cowgirls are shooting 38 percent from the floor on the season.
Following Monday, the Huskies welcome Nicholls (Thursday, 7 p.m.) and Southeastern Louisiana (Saturday, 4 p.m.) to Sharp Gym.
