SFA leads the all-time series, 5-0, and won the only meeting last season, 71-60, Jan. 11 in Houston.
HBU (9-12 overall, 3-7 SLC) had huge games from
Rachel Arthur,
Anna Strickland, and
Monet Neal to snap a three-game skid and defeat visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 59-54, for the first time in program history.
Arthur scored a game-high 21 points - two shy of tying her career high - on 10-of-15 shooting. Strickland earned her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points, 10 boards, and had two of the team's three blocks. Neal finished in double figures with 11 points and had six rebounds.
On the season,
Shanice Steenholdt continues to be the lone player in the Southland Conference to average a double-double. She is first with 10.3 rebounds per game and second with 17.8 points per contest. Her 1.6 blocked shots per game are third-most in the conference. Strickland is second with 1.8, behind SFA's Porsha Roberts, with 2.4.
Tayler Jefferson is sixth in the conference with 3.7 assists per game and 25th with 10.5 points per contest.
The Huskies as a team lead the conference with a 45.5 field-goal percentage, rebounding margin (+8.7), and blocked shots per game (5.05). The Huskies are second in field-goal percentage defense with 38.4.
SFA (14-6 overall, 7-2 SLC) has won two straight games and seven of the last eight following a 69-61 home win over Northwestern State Thursday. Tierany Henderson led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Porsha Roberts is fourth in the conference with 17.0 points per game, third with 9.5 rebounds per contest, and leads the conference in both blocked shots per game (2.4) and field-goal percentage (62.0). Not to be forgotten is Taylor Ross, who averages 14.7 points per game and is third in the conference with 4.7 helpers per contest. SFA as a team is second in the conference with a 44.2 field-goal percentage.
