Live StatsGame NotesHOUSTON – After a good start to the month of December, HBU women's basketball will look to keep the momentum going when the Huskies take on Texas Southern on Saturday at 2 p.m. from TSU's H&PE Arena, located at 3100 Cleburne St.
TSU leads the all-time series, 5-1, and won the previous meeting, 92-80, last season in Sharp Gym.
Tayler Jefferson scored a game-high 25 points in the game, while
Monet Neal and
Rachel Arthur chipped in with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
HBU (3-3) used strong performances from Neal and
Heidi Sihvola to defeat Trinity, 60-46, Wednesday evening. Neal led all players with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and a career-high four blocked shots, while Sihvola scored 17 points on a career-best four 3-pointers. She also tied her personal high of eight rebounds. On the season,
Anna Strickland leads the team with 13.2 points (10th in the SLC) and 12.8 rebounds (1st) per game. Her rebound average is eighth in the nation. She is also tops with 2.0 blocked shots (T-1st) and 2.5 steals (8th) per game. Following suit is Arthur with 12.7 points (12th) per game. As a team, HBU is shooting 39 percent from the floor, while opponents are shooting 41 percent.
After five games on the road, Saturday marks Texas Southern's (1-4) home opener. The Lady Tigers lost at LSU, 86-36, Tuesday. TSU went 1-1 at the Tennessee State Thanksgiving Classic, falling to the host Tigers, 72-56, but defeating Lipscomb, 66-62. Keiana Vines, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, leads TSU with 12.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, while also posting a team-best 15 blocked shots. Jazzmin Parker follows with 9.6 points per game. As a team, the Lady Tigers are shooting 39 percent from the floor compared to 44 percent for their opponents.
After the contest, HBU closes the 2015 portion of the schedule with three home games: Texas State (12/16; 7 p.m.), UT Arlington (12/19; 1 p.m.), and Huston-Tillotson (12/28; 2 p.m.).
