Matthew McCollough and the Huskies' bullpen shutdown Texas Southern for a 3-1 victory in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
McCollough (1-0) notched his first win of the season, holding TSU to no runs on two hits with a strikeout in five innings. Sophomore

Jerry Ford II went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and a run for the Tigers (8-15). Ryan Rios (2-3) took the loss for TSU, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three in five innings. The Tigers used five relievers, who held the Huskies to one run on one hit over the last four frames.
HBU took the lead in the third when Chamberlain doubled and junior rightfielder
Thomas Clay's infield single put runners on the corner. Vaughn then lifted a sacrifice fly to center. In the fourth, Nehrir drew a two-out walk, went to second on a balk and scored on an single by Martinez.
TSU got on the board in the sixth, when Ford led off with a walk by Harding, stole second, third, then stole home on a double steal after Zach Welz had walked.
The Huskies got their insurance run back in the ninth when Nehrir led off with a double, went to third on a bunt by Martinez, then scored on a sacrifice fly by McCoy.
HBU returns to action when it travels to face Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference series Friday through Sunday in Hammond, La.
