LAKE CHARLES, La. – HBU softball plays their first road conference series of the season this week, as the Huskies will play a mid-week three-game set against McNeese State. Wednesday's doubleheader begins at 5 pm, while Thursday's single game will start at 5 pm.
The Cowgirls lead the all-time series, 23-7, and swept last season's series in Houston.
HBU (5-12 overall, 1-2 SLC) took the third game from Northwestern State Sunday in walk-off fashion, as
Melissa Herman hit a lead-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to cap off a 9-8 come-from-behind win. NWST was leading, 8-2, before the Huskies used a six-run fifth to tie the game.
Five different Huskies had two-hit games.
Alyssa Burnett, who hit the game-tying three-run blast in the fifth, had a career-high four RBI.
On the season,
Shay Orsak leads the team with a .411 batting average and eight doubles.
Lauren Schwirtlich is hitting .383 at the plate, while
Kirsten Schwirtlich has a .345 average, with six doubles and a team-best 14 RBI.
In the circle,
Emily Mueller has a staff-best 3.00 ERA, as she is 3-3 with 19 strikeouts and 18 walks.
McNeese State (14-8 overall, 2-1 SLC) started conference play 2-1 at Sam Houston State, splitting Saturday's doubleheader and winning Sunday's game, 9-2. The Cowgirls have defeated two ranked teams this season: No. 7 Alabama and No. 8 Texas A&M.
In Sunday's game against SHSU, the SLC Hitter of the Week, Taylor Goree, went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
On the season, Lauren Langner is hitting a team-best .370 at the plate with eight doubles, a triple, and ten RBI. Ashley Modzelewski leads the Cowgirls with 19 RBI and six home runs.
SLC's Pitcher of the Week, Jamie Allred, has seen the majority of action in the circle and is 9-3 with a 2.12 ERA. She has struck out 71 batters and walked 32.
