The series between HBU and Texas State is tied at 1-1 with each team winning on its home floor. The Huskies won the last meeting, a 78-76 overtime thriller in Sharp Gym Feb. 20, 2013.
Rachel Arthur scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, but HBU (0-2) lost at UT Arlington, 83-73, Sunday afternoon.
Tayler Jefferson scored 16 points and
Shanice Steenholdt added 14.
Steenholdt leads the team with 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, earning Southland Conference Player of the Week honors. Jefferson and
Lisa Zderadicka average 10.0 points apiece. Steenholdt and
Anna Strickland each have three blocks, while
Erin McGarrachan has a team-best six steals.
As a team, HBU is shooting 41 percent from the floor compared to 45 percent for its opponents.
After defeating Texas A&M International, 83-65, Nov. 15, Texas State (1-1) went into Lubbock Tuesday night and lost a tough 81-77 overtime game at Texas Tech. All five Bobcat starters scored in double figures at TTU, led by Meghan Braeuer's 24.
On the season, Braeuer leads Texas State with 18.0 points per game, as she is shooting 63 percent from the floor. Erin Peoples is averaging 15.5 points per game, while Jacquelin Jeffcoat is averaging a double-double of 13.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest.
Both Texas State and its opponents are shooting 41 percent from the floor.
Following Saturday's game, HBU hosts Southwestern Assemblies of God Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 pm in its home opener.
