HOUSTON – Houston Baptist sophomore righthander Curtis Jones turned in a solid outing on the mound and also went 2-for-3 at the plate as the Huskies claimed a 4-3 victory over future Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin in the final home game of the season Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.

Junior Kobie Hajdik earned his second save of the season, shutting out SFA on two hits and striking out three in 1.1 innings.

Junior shortstop CJ Jarvis went 3-for-5 and drove in a run, while sophomore catcher Samm Wiggins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Senior second baseman Josh Foust tripled, drove in a run and scored.

Jones led off the third inning with a single to center, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior rightfielder Jordan McCoy walked, then senior centerfielder Jake Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jones scored on a wild pitch and after junior first baseman Mike Chamberlain walked to reload the bases, Wiggins lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.

Chamberlain walked to lead off the fifth, but was picked off. Wiggins followed with a single to rightcenter, then Foust ripped a two-out RBI triple to deep rightcenter. Jarvis then laid down a squeeze bunt for a single to make the score 4-0.

SFA got on the board in the sixth when Rene Moreda was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Dozier blasted a two-run homer to left. The Lumberjacks added a run in the seventh when Jordan Camel led off with a single and Jackson Hood reached on a fielder's choice that retired Camel. Michael Ruiz walked, then a wild pitch moved the runners up. Joseph Olson's ground ball plated a run to get SFA within one, but freshman lefthander Matthew McCollough and Hajdik shut them down the rest of the way.

The Huskies finish out the season on the road in Great West Conference play the next two weeks, beginning with a four-game series against Chicago State Friday through Sunday at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, then a four-game series against NJIT May 16-18 in Newark, N.J. The Great West Conference Tournament will also be held in Newark May 21-25.
