Softball Hosts Conference Leader McNeese State This Weekend

Three-game series begins Saturday at 1 pm

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist returns to the diamond Saturday, as the Huskies host Southland Conference leader, McNeese State, in a three-game series. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm Saturday, while Sunday's first pitch begins at 2 pm.

The Cowgirls lead the all-time series 20-7, defeating the Huskies twice last season to begin the 2012 campaign, 4-0 and 3-2. Mac Christensen and Victoria Granchelli each had an RBI in game two, while Rebecca Rademacher was the only Husky to have a hit in each game.

HBU (13-16, 6-9 SLC) is looking to snap a five-game losing streak, all coming in conference play. Lauren Schwirtlich leads the Huskies with a .489 batting average, which is the second-highest in NCAA Division I and leads the SLC. She has 45 hits, three doubles, five triples, one home run, and nine RBI. Kirsten Schwirtlich has a .379 average, while her 40 RBI leads the SLC. She has hit a team-high eight home runs.

In the circle, both Keely Shuler and Sarah Shotton have a 3.06 ERA. Shuler has walked just nine batters in 64.0 innings, while striking out 23. Shotton has struck out a team-best 40 batters.

McNeese State (29-10, 10-3 SLC) also hasn't played in a week, after taking two of three against Stephen F. Austin. Alanna Divittorio leads the Cowgirls with a .383 average and 10 doubles. Emily Vincent posts a .379 average with team-leading nine home runs and 38 RBI. Vincent is two RBI behind SLC leader K. Schwirtlich.

In the circle, Meagan Bond leads the SLC with a 1.19 ERA. She has walked just 11 batters while striking out 134. She has started the last four games for the Cowgirls. Jamie Allred is behind Bond with a 1.55 ERA, while walking 15 batters and striking out 111.
