HOUSTON – After a six-day layoff, the Houston Baptist softball team returns to the field to play at Texas Southern on Tuesday, March 5, then host UTSA in a doubleheader at Husky Field the next day. First pitch Tuesday is at 3 pm, while Wednesday's doubleheader begins at 2 pm.

Tuesday's game against the Lady Tigers is the end of a home-and-home series and will be held at Memorial Park. TSU defeated the Huskies, 8-5, on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Husky Field. HBU is now 48-4 all-time against TSU, while UTSA leads the all-time series against HBU, 15-4.

After starting the season 4-0, the Huskies will look to end a three-game skid. Lauren Schwirtlich, who has started all seven games, leads the team with a .556 batting average, 10 hits, seven runs scored, and two triples. Sister Kirsten Schwirtlich has a .381 average, as she leads the team with 13 RBI and three home runs, as she is behind Lauren with eight hits.

In the circle, Lori Earl leads the team with a perfect 0.00 ERA, appearing in one game with a shutout. Keely Shuler is next with a 1.75 ERA, appearing in a team-high four games, with two starts. Her nine shutouts are tied with Kendall Stiefel. Sarah Shotton leads the Huskies with 17 Ks.

Texas Southern (9-4) is led at the plate by Thomasina Garza, with a .500 batting average. She has gone 21-for-42 at the plate and has 22 of the team's 65 RBI. Garza also has eight doubles, two triples, and one home run.

Jessica Haynes leads the pitching staff with a 0.47 ERA. Rebecca Villarreal has 30 of the team's 46 strikeouts, while posting a 1.79 ERA in a staff-high six appearances.

UTSA (11-8) took two of three from visiting Sam Houston State over the weekend. Megan Low leads the team with a .459 batting average, leading the Roadrunners with 16 RBI and six doubles, while tied for the lead of four home runs and 20 hits.

In the circle, Halee Staton has a 1.62 ERA, appearing in a staff-high 14 games. She has struck out 44 batters.
