HOUSTON – Three Huskies had multiple RBI days as Houston Baptist swept a doubleheader from visiting Central Arkansas Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field. The Huskies won game one, 5-1, then run-ruled the Sugar Bears in game two, 13-3.

UCA got on the board first with one swing in game one, as leadoff hitter Sam Forrest hit a homer to right field. The Huskies answered as Lauren Schwirtlich started the inning with a triple, then crossed home as Kirsten Schwirtlich grounded out to short.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Melissa Herman hit a two-out double to left-center, then crossed home as Victoria Granchelli hit an RBI double down the left field line.

HBU plated three runners in the bottom of the sixth for key insurance. L. Schwirtlich started things off with a leadoff double, then she and Lauren Powers later scored on a two-run RBI double by K. Schwirtlich. Schwirtlich reached third on a UCA error. She scored the Huskies' fifth run on a sac fly by Herman.

The Sugar Bears went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

L. Schwirtlich and Granchelli each went 2-for-3 for HBU, while L. Schwirtlich had a game-high two RBI. Shuler (4-3) went the distance in the circle, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out two.

Melissa Bryant led UCA with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Kelsie Armstrong (13-7) also went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits, five runs (three earned) while striking out five.

HBU used small ball to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Two bunts, the second coming from Herman, scored L. Schwirtlich.

The Sugar Bears tied the game at one with an RBI double by Melanie Bryant to score Sarah Bigej in the top of the second.

HBU broke the game open with a six-run bottom of the second to lead UCA, 7-1. Shay Orsak and V. Granchelli each had a two-RBI inning, as the Huskies brought 11 players to the plate.

The Sugar Bears chipped into the lead, scoring two in the top of the third. Forrest hit an RBI double and Bigej also recorded an RBI, as HBU led UCA through three-and-a-half, 7-3.

HBU relied on the long ball in the bottom of the third, as Orsak hit her first-collegiate home run, then V. Granchelli hit a grand slam to left field to give the Huskies a 12-3 lead.

The Huskies' final run came in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on the corners, the Huskies pulled a double steal to make the score 13-3.

The Sugar Bears couldn't convert on a leadoff double by Melissa Bryant, as the Huskies won the game, 13-3.

V. Granchelli led HBU with a six-RBI game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Orsak went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI. Kendall Stiefel went the distance in the circle, allowing six hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out two.

Forrest, Bigej, and Melanie Bryant each had an RBI for UCA. Cicely New took the loss in the circle, lasting just 1.0+ and giving up four hits, five runs (four earned), and one walk while striking out one.

HBU (11-9, 5-3 SLC) and UCA (20-11, 4-4 SLC) conclude the series tomorrow at 1 pm.
