Softball Hosts Southeastern Louisiana Saturday

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist continues its 10-game home stand when the Huskies host their first Southland Conference games in program history. HBU and Southeastern Louisiana square off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 pm, then conclude the series with a single game on Sunday beginning at 2 pm.

HBU (8-7, 2-1 SLC) last split a doubleheader against visiting Bucknell on March 11. Prior to that, the Huskies took two of three at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Lauren Schwirtlich leads HBU with a .465 batting average, 20 hits, and three triples. Kirsten Schwirtlich posts a .378 average, with team highs of four doubles, six home runs, and 25 RBI.

In the circle, Lori Earl leads the pitching staff with a 1.58 ERA. She has a 2-1 record with two complete games and one shutout. Sarah Shotton, who has a 2.69 ERA, leads the staff with 25 strikeouts.

Southeastern Louisiana (14-7, 2-1 SLC) run-ruled Southern, 14-2, on March 13. Prior to that, the Lions took two of three from visiting Sam Houston State to begin conference play.

Katie Lacour leads the Lions with a .342 batting average. Kelsey Nicholls is next with a .328 average, while leading the team with seven doubles. Amber Sather leads the Lions with 18 RBI.

In the circle, Taylor Bishop and Rachael Hellyear go 1-2 with 1.72 and 1.78 ERAs, respectively.

Central Arkansas (19-7, 3-0 SLC) recently lost at Oklahoma State, 10-2. The Sugar Bears swept Stephen F. Austin at home to begin conference play and play a three-game series at Sam Houston State this weekend before coming to Houston.

Lindsay Elliott leads the Sugar Bears with a .480 batting average. Sam Forrest is next with a .430 mark, while leading the team with 40 hits, 11 doubles, and her 25 RBI are one shy of team-leader's Sarah Bigej's 26.

Cicely New has appeared six times in the circle and has a 0.78 ERA. Two-time SLC Pitcher of the Week, Kelsie Armstrong, has appeared a team-high 20 times with 16 starts and 14 complete games, posting a 1.65 ERA with 134 strikeouts.
