HOUSTON – Houston Baptist started the second half outscored 19-1, but outscored UT-Pan American 17-2 in a span of seven minutes to pull within six. Unfortunately, the Huskies couldn't complete the comeback, in a hard-fought 67-59 loss to the Broncs Saturday afternoon in Sharp Gym.

Tayler Jefferson led HBU (5-21, 0-5 GWC) with 15 points, as she made four 3-pointers. Shanice Steenholdt finished second with 14 points and led the Huskies with eight rebounds. She also recorded one block and five steals. Erin McGarrachan scored nine points, while Rachel Arthur and Wiebke Bruns each scored eight.

UTPA (10-15, 3-4 GWC) was led in scoring by KaeLynn Boyd with 15 points. Johnondra Patterson and Bianca Torre scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. Joyea Marshall came off the bench to grab a game-high 11 rebounds.

HBU led by as five, 14-9, following a 3-pointer by Jefferson at the 14:07-mark before UTPA came back to tie the game at 14-all a little over a minute later. The Broncs continued to roll, leading the Huskies by five, 19-14, before a steal by Meghan Shank led to two free throws by Arthur to make the score, 19-16, with 11:16 remaining in the first half.

The Broncs outscored HBU 9-2 to lead by 10, 28-18, with 8:05 left in the first half. The Huskies cut the deficit to four on two occasions, the latest coming at the 2:35-mark following a free throw by Monet Neal, but the Broncs closed out the half with a pair of free throws by Franchesca Simon to lead at the break, 35-29.

Steenholdt and Jefferson each led HBU with eight points, while Patterson led UTPA with eight points.

UTPA started the second half on fire, outscoring the Huskies 19-1 until a Jefferson 3-pointer stopped the bleeding at the 10:47-mark, making the score 54-33. That trey sparked the Huskies, who continued on a 17-2 run in a span of seven minutes, to make the score 56-50 with 4:11 to go in regulation.

Unfortunately that was the closest HBU came, as UTPA would increase its lead to 10, while HBU could get no closer than seven.

HBU hits the road for the final time in the regular season, a 4 pm CST start at Utah Valley on Sat., Mar. 2.
