BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The HBU women's basketball team will play two games on the west coast this week, as the Huskies begin the trip against Bakersfield Thursday at 9 pm central. The road trip concludes against UC Davis Saturday at 2 pm central.
Bakersfield is 3-0 all-time against the Huskies, with the most-recent meeting coming in Houston last season, as the Roadrunners won, 88-75. UC Davis won the first-ever meeting between the two teams last season at the Husky Classic, 77-64.
Tayler Jefferson scored a season-high 13 points and
Shanice Steenholdt recorded her third double-double on the season, but visiting HBU (3-5) lost to No. 9 Baylor, 100-57, on Dec. 15.
Along with leading the team in points, Jefferson also grabbed three rebounds, had three assists, one steal, and one block. Steenholdt scored 12 points, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, had one assist, and one steal.
Rachel Arthur also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points.
On the season, Steenholdt leads the Huskies with 15.1 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, nine blocks, and 20 steals.
Erin McGarrachan is next with 11.6 points per game and is tied with
Anna Strickland with 6.4 boards per game.
Bakersfield (3-6) concluded a four-game road trip with a 70-51 loss at No. 21/22 California on Dec. 15.
Tyonna Outland led the 'Runners with 13 points and had one of the team's two blocks as she played in a game-high 38 minutes. Batabe Zempare came off the bench to grab a game-high 14 rebounds.
Outland leads Bakersfield with 18.3 points per game on the season and averages 2.7 assists per game. Dajy Vines is behind Outland with 10.8 points per game. Zempare averages a team-best 12.0 rebounds per game.
UC Davis (2-7) has lost three-straight games, with the latest setback coming at St. Mary's, 88-71, on Dec. 15. The Aggies play at Santa Clara on Wednesday to close a six-game road trip.
Sydnee Fipps leads the Aggies on the season with 16.0 points per game and is second in rebounds with 5.2. Alyson Doherty leads the team with 5.6 boards per contest and is behind Fipps with 11.0 points per game. Doherty has 10 of the team's 18 blocks.
