HOUSTON – Oral Roberts took a 1-0 lead into halftime, then scored two second-half goals to defeat HBU, 3-0, in Southland Conference action Friday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
The only goal in the first half came in the 27th minute, as Jennifer Abernathy was fouled in the box and scored on a penalty kick.
The shots were even at nine apiece in the opening half, as each goalkeeper made three saves. ORU had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Jordan Parsons gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead with a corner kick goal in the 61st minute, assisted by Abernathy.
Abernathy completed her career day with her second goal of the contest in the 84th minute, as she dribbled up the left side, then snuck the ball into the lower right corner of the net.
ORU outshot the Huskies, 9-2, in the second half and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Molly Missimer had four of the five shots on goal for HBU.
Patty Walrath made six saves in the losing effort in goal.
All six of Abernathy's shot attempts were on goal. Maddie Rhodes earned the win in goal, as she made five saves.
HBU (4-9-1, 3-4-0 SLC) hosts Central Arkansas Sunday at 2 pm.
