HOUSTON -- For the third year in a row Friday, Matt Perri ran away with the men's individual title at the HBU Invitational cross country meet. Covering the 5,000-meter flat grass course at the St. Agnes Athletics Complex in 15:04, Perri made a strong move over the final 500m to put a five-second margin on runner-up Jesus Esparza of Tec de Monterrey.

Hiba Kreidie was the top women's finisher for the Huskies, placing eighth at 18:33.

Freshmen Orlando Garcia and Juan Garza were 10th and 11th, with Garcia running his best race as a Husky with a 15:42 to Fraga's 15:45. Ulysses Montoya nabbed the No. 4 spot for HBU with his 16:26 in 23rd, while Javier Zamora closed out the top five with a 26th-place finish in 16:30. The Huskies scored 45 points to place second as a team behind defending champions Texas A&M, who scored 20.

Gabriela Busquet cruised to an 11th-place finish to grab the No. 2 slot for the HBU women, just ahead of Jessica Whitt, who was 14th at 18:51. Carolyn McClanahan ran 19:29 for 30th, and freshman Stephanie Aguilar was 39th at 20:14 to give the Huskies 68 points and a third-place team finish behind Baylor (31) and Texas A&M (55).

Cy Woods swept the individual and team trophies in the high school races, as Madison Gilcrease took top honors in the girls' 5K and Shea Foster captured the boys' gold. More than 750 runners competed in the meet, which was held for the first time off the HBU campus.

The Huskies travel to Lake Charles in three weeks for the Southland Conference championships, hosted by McNeese State.
