Hager and Horn Post-Match Interview

HOUSTON – Sophomore forward Natalie Hager's second-half goal was all the scoring junior goalkeeper Shelby Horn would need, as Horn made seven saves as Houston Baptist shut out visiting UTSA, 1-0, before a raucous sellout crowd at Sorrels Field Friday night.

Neither team could score in the first half, as there were only two shots on goal in the half, both by UTSA.

Hager's goal came in the 51st minute, assisted by Cindy Hedden. Hager split the defenders and beat goalkeeper Katarine Pus.

Mere seconds after the Huskies scored the match's first goal, Horn made a fantastic save to keep the Huskies in the lead. The seven saves by Horn were the most in one game since she stopped seven against TCU on Sept. 25, 2011.

UTSA had chances all the way until the final seconds of the half to tie the match, but could not get the equalizer. The Roadrunners had seven corner kicks – five in the second half alone – but every time HBU headed the ball out of harm's way.

UTSA outshot HBU, 11-6, and 7-3 in shots on goal. Horn earned the victory by stopping all seven shots she faced, including five in the second half. Pus took the loss for the Roadrunners, making two saves.

HBU has now won three-straight regular season openers, all at home.

HBU (1-0-0) will play at the University of Houston on Sun., Aug. 19 at 7 pm.
