GREELEY, Colo. – Houston Baptist freshman catcher
Samm Wiggins went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three runs scored, but Northern Colorado rallied for a run in the ninth to down the Huskies, 6-5, in the Great West Conference series finale Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field.
Sophomore third baseman
Tanner Kalina also went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Huskies (15-22, 7-5 GWC). Senior leftfielder
David Pfuntner went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while junior shortstop
Josh Foust went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run. Junior centerfielder
Jake Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and freshman pitcher Curtis Jones went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
Casey Coy went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Bears (16-21, 7-5). Adam Hilker and Adrian Schenk each went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Harrison Lambert homered and drove in two for Northern Colorado.
Josh Tinnon (1-1) picked up the win for Northern Colorado, allowing one hit in 1.2 innings. Senior
Michael Schulle (2-4) took the loss for HBU, giving up only the winning run on two hits in two innings. Jones allowed five runs on nine hits, walked four and struck out three in six innings for HBU, while Joe Willman allowed five runs on 12 hits in seven innings for Northern Colorado.
For the first time in the series, HBU got on the board first as Foust drew a one-out walk, then scored on Gonzalez's triple to leftcenter to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The lead was short lived as Northern Colorado responded in the bottom of the inning. Yamane led off with a walk, Coy singled to the left side and Hilker moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. After Schenk struck out, Tony Crudo walked to load the bases, and Colby Harrison hit a looper over the pitcher's mound for an infield hit to tie the game.
Wiggins led off the top of the fourth for the Huskies with a double to gap in leftcenter, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kalina and scored on Pfuntner's two-out single to right. The Bears answered again in the bottom of the inning, as Ferguson led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a groundout. Coy doubled down the leftfield line to tie the game, 2-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Schenk led off with an infield single, stole second and scored the go-ahead run on a single to right by Crudo. Lambert then blasted a two-run shot to left to put the Bears ahead, 5-2.
HBU answered as Wiggins led off the sixth with a solo home run off the top of the fence in leftcenter. Kalina followed with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, but couldn't make it home.

Josh Martinez, then both scored on a double to leftcenter by Pfuntner to tie the game, 5-5.
Hilker led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and after failing to get down a sacrifice bunt, Schenk singled up the middle to put runners on the corners with no outs. With the infield drawn in, pinch hitter Bryan Tibbitts singled to right to plate the winning tally for the Bears.
The Huskies return to action when they travel to face Sam Houston State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Huntsville, Texas.
