HOOVER, Ala. – Houston Baptist shot its lowest team round of the tournament with a 301 to finish eight out of a field of 18 teams at the Samford Intercollegiate Tuesday at the 7,001-yard, par-72 Hoover Country Club.

Preston Stanley closed with a 76, after shooting 76 in the first round and 73 in the second, to tie for 17
th at 225. Freshman
Andy Ariens also shot 76 in the first and third rounds and had a 75 in the second to finish alone in 22
nd with a 227. Senior
Mark Slater shot a 76, after shooting 78 and 75, to tie for 29
th at 229. Senior
Andrew Rollins carded a 77 in the third round and tied for 33
rd at 230, after shooting 73 and 80. Freshman
Jeffrey Merrell fired the Huskies' low round of the day with a 73 and tied for 61
st at 236, after shooting 78 and 85 in the first and second rounds.
Host Samford claimed the team title with a score of 882, nine strokes ahead of Austin Peay and Davidson. Sam Houston State shot 883 to finish fourth, while Western Carolina, Winthrop and Belmont tied for fifth at 904. HBU finished with a three-round team score of 907.
Samford's Casey O'Toole won the individual title with a score of 5-under par 211, finishing two strokes ahead of Austin Peay's Dustin Korte and Davidson's Richard Fountain.
The Huskies return to action at the Rio Pinar Invitational hosted by UCF March 19-20 at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
