HOOVER, Ala. – Houston Baptist senior
Andrew Rollins fired an opening-round 1-over par 73 and is tied for fifth, and the Huskies are in sixth in the team standings after the first round of the Samford Intercollegiate Monday at the 7,001-yard, par-72 Hoover Country Club. Play was suspended in the second round due to darkness.
Rollins was 1-over at the turn, but shot even-par coming home on the back nine for HBU. Freshmen
Preston Stanley and
Andy Ariens are tied for 18
th, carding 76. Freshman
Jeffrey Merrell and senior
Mark Slater each shot 78 and are tied for 38
th.
With a team score of 303, HBU is 12 shots off the pace set by host Samford, which leads at 291. Austin Peay is six strokes behind in second at 297, while Belmont and Davidson are tied for third at 298. Sam Houston rounds out the top-five at 299.
Austin Peay's Dustin Korte shot a 4-under 68 to hold the individual lead by one stroke over Belmont's Elliott Wickenden.
The second round will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday, followed by the final round.
