ORLANDO, Fla. – Houston Baptist tied its lowest team round of the season with a 3-under par 285 to move up and finish sixth at the Rio Pinar Inviational at the 7,001-yard, par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club Black Course Tuesday.
Freshmen
Andy Ariens fired his lowest round of the season with a 4-under par 68 and tied for 14
th with a 54-hole total of 2-under 214 to lead the Huskies. Freshman
Preston Stanley shot a 71 and tied for 20
th at 217, while senior
Mark Slater shot a 73 and tied for 33
rd at 221. Freshman
Brandon Wilhide also shot a 73 and tied for 41
st at 223. Senior
Andrew Rollins tied for 71
st at 232 after posting a 77.
Wichita State claimed the team title at 20-under par 844, four strokes ahead of host UCF and six ahead of Florida Gulf Coast. Northern Illinios finished fourth at 870 and Campbell finished fifth at 872, three strokes ahead of HBU.
FGCU's Jack Hernandez won the individual championship, finishing at 9-under par 207, one stroke ahead of Wichita State's Rafael Becker and two ahead of UCF's Ricardo Gouveia.
The Huskies return to action at the Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State April 1-3 at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.
