ORLANDO, Fla. – Houston Baptist opened with a 300, then came back strong with a 290 in the second round to move up three spots into a tie for eighth after the first day of the Rio Pinar Country Club 7,001-yard, par-72 Black Course Monday.
Freshmen
Preston Stanley and
Andy Ariens each shot 74 in the first round, followed by a 72 in the second and are tied for 24
th at 146 to lead the Huskies. Senior
Mark Slater shot back-to-back rounds of 74 and is tied for 34
th at 148. Freshman
Brandon Wilhide opened with a 78, but rebounded with a 72 in the second round and is tied for 47
th at 150. Senior
Andrew Rollins shot an 80 in the first round, but shot 75 in the second and is tied for 67
th at 155.
Florida Gulf Coast lead the tournament at 13-under par 563, three strokes ahead of UCF and Wichita State. The other 12 schools are over par with the Huskies coming in a 14-over par 590.
FGCU's Alex Medinis fired the day's lowest round with a 67, then followed with a 70 to lead at 7-under par, two strokes ahead of Wichita State's Rafael Becker and UCF's Jose Joia.
The tournament concludes with the third round Tuesday at 8 a.m.
