HOUSTON – Houston Baptist freshman
Preston Stanley shot an even-par 72 to tie for 10
th with a score of 217 to lead the Huskies to a 13
th-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate Tuesday at Westwood Golf Club.
Stanley shot a season-best 69 in the first round, followed by a 76 in the second. Senior
Andrew Rollins tied for 32
nd at 222, finishing with a 73 after a 73 and a 76 on Monday. Senior
Mark Slater tied for 61
st at 229, carding a 76 in the final round, after a 76 and 77 on the first day, while freshman
Jeffrey Merrell tied for 65
th at 230, shooting a 75 to go with rounds of 78 and 77. Junior
Hudson Hansard tied for 73
rd at 236, shooting an 80, after rounds of 80 and 76. Freshman
Brandon Wilhide tied for 54
th playing individually, shooting an 80, to go with rounds of 76 and 71.
Northwestern claimed the team title with a score of 862, four strokes ahead of Houston. Florida Gulf Coast finished third at 872, Wichita State finished fourth at 874 and UT-San Antonio rounded out the top five at 875. HBU shot 897 as a team for the 54 holes.
New Mexico State's Zachery Fullerton and Northwestern's Eric Chun each finished with a score of 210, with Fullerton claiming the individual title in a playoff.
The Huskies return to action at the Samford Invitational March 5-6 at Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
