HOUSTON – The Houston Baptist University women's basketball team has one final test before starting Great West Conference play: a Tuesday home game against the Huston-Tillotson University Rams. Tip-off between the two teams is set for a 7 pm start on Jan. 10.

HBU is 22-1 all-time against HTU, going back to the teams' Red River Athletic Conference rivalry. The last time these two teams met was on Nov. 18, 2009, with a thrilling 101-99 double-overtime win for HBU. In that game, Raquel Jones scored a career-high 28 points and tied a program record with eight 3-pointers. Brittany Maxey scored 18 while Joselyn Pugh added 12. Kevetta Williams scored a game-high 34 points for HTU.

HBU (0-15) converted the second-fewest turnovers in a game – 14 – against Sam Houston State, but poor three-point shooting and bench points were the difference in a 69-51 loss on Jan. 3.

The Huskies converted just 1-of-16 threes (6.1%) and the SHSU bench outscored the Huskies, 17-0.

Shanice Steenholdt recorded game highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds, tying a personal best in rebounds in a game. Devyn Weymouth added 13 points and dished out a team-high four assists.

Sequeena Thomas led the Bearkats with 16 points, while Britni Martin had 12 points and a game-high six assists.

Steenholdt leads the Huskies with 17.9 ppg and 10.5 rpg. She also leads the team with 28 blocks and is tied with Tayler Jefferson with 26 steals. Maisie Elston has hit a team-high 15 threes on a team-best 33 percent shooting.

Steenholdt continues to make a name for herself on a national level.

She is ranked tied for 46th out of the top 298 student-athletes in all of NCAA Division I in points per game, averaging 17.9. Not only that, but she leads all freshmen in that category.

Shanice is also ranked tied for 16th out of the top 300 Division I student-athletes in rebounds a game, averaging 10.5 per game. She leads all freshmen in that category.

Steenholdt leads all DI freshmen and is tied for fifth nationally with nine double-doubles this season and is five behind national leader, Sacramento State's Kylie Kuhns, who has 14 double-doubles in 16 games. Steenholdt has more double-doubles than Baylor's Brittney Griner, who has seven.

Weymouth has played all 40 minutes against Sam Houston State on Jan. 3 and has now played 40 minutes in three of the last four games and six games in all. She leads the Great West Conference, averaging 37.7 minutes a game.

Huston-Tillotson (4-8) snapped a two-game losing streak in a big way: a 107-78 rout of College of the Southwest on Jan. 7.

Kandice Smith led the Rams with 27 points on 12-of-22 shooting. She also had 16 rebounds – 10 offensive. Williams also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds. She has scored in double-figures in six-straight games, including dropping 29 against Texas State on Dec. 6.
