Huskies Score Early and Often in 6-0 Win Over Southern

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist scored five first-half goals, including three in a four-minute span, and never looked back as the Huskies blanked visiting Southern, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.

Molly Missimer led the Huskies with two goals and two assists. Natalie Hager had two goals and Brandi Hart recorded two assists. Arielle Rodriguez had a goal and an assist, Rebecca Jardon had one assist and Lindsey Braddick scored her first collegiate goal.

Shelby Horn played the first half and made one save. Patty Walrath played 41 minutes, also recording one save.

Courtney Bahadursingh and Jazmine Harrell each had a shot on goal for the Lady Jaguars. Sarah Forde played 86 minutes, allowing six goals and making six saves.

Missimer started the scoring off in the 15th minute, as Hart sent a centering pass that Missimer banged home.

Hager scored her first of the match in the 18th minute, assisted by Jardon. Jardon sent a pass up the middle and Hager shot the ball into an open net.

One minute later, Rodriguez scored her first tally of the season, assisted by Hart and Missimer. Missimer passed the ball to Hart, who headed it to Rodriguez.

Braddick scored in the 21st minute, assisted by Missimer. Hager scored her second of the half in the 27th minute, unassisted.

Missimer completed her terrific day with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by Rodriguez, on a corner kick.


"We had really well-executed goals," said head coach Misty Jones. "Our hard work in practice is paying off. We moved the ball quickly and kept possession. We took most of our opportunities. We finished off well."

The match was delayed for 35 minutes in the second half due to lightning and was called with four minutes remaining, due to lightning.

HBU outshot Southern 20-5, including a 13-1 advantage in the first half.

HBU (5-5-0) will hit the road against Texas State on Sept. 23 at 7 pm.
