KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Houston Baptist University women's golf team saved its best round for last with a closing 314 to finish 28th with a 54-hole total of 963 at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Cougar Point and Oak Point Tuesday.
Freshman Jessica Ngui fired a 76 to lead the Huskies and tie for 69th at 235. Junior Kelsey Lou-Hing carded a 78 to tie for 93rd at 240, while sophomore Balbina Guajardo shot an 81 and tied for 117th at 244. Sophomore Gaia Olcese shot an 84 and tied for 134th at 249, while junior Paige Gibson came back with a 79 after withdrawing Monday.
Miami claimed the team title with a score of 888, nine strokes ahead of Campbell and 13 ahead of Florida International.
Campbell's Sarah Bejgrowicz and Daytona State's Mitsuki Katahira tied for the individual title with a score of even-par 216, one stroke ahead of William & Mary's Betsy Birchall.
The Huskies return to action at the Butler Benbow Invitational March 14-15 at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
