HOUSTON – The Houston Baptist women's basketball team heads back on the road to participate in the Navy Classic, hosted by the Naval Academy, from Dec. 2-3. The Huskies will play the host Midshipmen and George Washington, while the University of Maine is also competing.
This will be the first-ever meetings against both Navy and George Washington.
Mere hours after being named Great West Conference Player of the Week,
Shanice Steenholdt recorded her third double-double in the last four games for HBU (0-7), tying the game high with 12 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. She set new personal bests with three blocks and two assists, while also recording one steal.
Joselyn Pugh finished second with eight points and had five boards, playing all but one minute.
Maisie Elston set new career highs with five points and eight rebounds.
The Huskies had a higher field-goal percentage than Stephen F. Austin and scored more points in the paint, but the difference in the game were three pointers, as the Ladyjacks hit 11 in the game.
Tierany Henderson tied the game high with 12 points for SFA, while Brittney Matthew scored 11. Henderson went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Navy (2-3) began its five-game home stand with a 71-59 win over Air Force on Nov. 28. Navy led by as many as 20 and let all but two points of its lead slip away, but held on for the win.
Jade Geif led the Mids with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Audrey Bauer and Kara Pollinger each finished in double figures, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Alicia Leipbrandt of Air Force led all scorers with 26, on 12-of-25 shooting. She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and game-high three steals. Dymond James scored 13 for the Falcons.
George Washington (3-3) hosted Old Dominion Wednesday night, the fourth home game in the first six games for GW, defeating ODU 58-52 in overtime.
Tara Booker had a huge night for the Colonials, scoring 17 points and pulling down 17 rebounds in the win. She also had three steals. Danni Jackson also finished with 17 points, while Chakecia Miller scored 14.
Tia Lewis (19 pts, 14 rbs) and JoNiquia Guilford (12 pts, 14 rbs) each had double-doubles for ODU. Old Dominion held a slim advantage in rebounds, 52-50.
