HOUSTON – Houston Baptist women's basketball opens the regular season with a season-high four-game road trip, beginning with two games this weekend, at Iowa State on Friday and UMKC on Sunday.
Friday's matchup will be the first ever between the Huskies and Cyclones, while it will mark the second meeting all-time against the Kangaroos. UMKC defeated HBU, 59-50, last season at the Husky Classic.
HBU started the year on a positive note, defeating visiting Abilene Christian, 75-67, in exhibition play on Nov. 4.
Devyn Weymouth nearly recorded a double-double in the win, with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Shanice Steenholdt finished with 16 points and was tied for second with
Joselyn Pugh with six rebounds.
Tayler Jefferson scored 14 points and
Destini Texada had a game-high eight steals.
ACU was led by Mack Langford with 19 points, followed by Cecilee Perez with 10. Renata Marquez had four steals.
Iowa State won its two exhibition games, both at home, defeating Coe College, 87-33, on Nov. 1, and Rockhurst, 79-29, on the 6th.
Three players finished in double-figures against Coe, led by Chelsea Poppens with 14 points. She also led ISU with nine rebounds. Nikki Moody scored 12 points and Anna Prins added 11.
Against Rockhurst, Hallie Christofferson and Poppens each scored a game-high 17 points. Kelsey Harris finished with 11 points. Poppens, Kileah Mays and Chassidy Cole each grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Iowa State, who reached the NCAA Tournament last season, is receiving votes in the 2011 preseason poll.
UMKC won its two exhibition games, defeating Harding, 88-73, on Nov. 1, and Park, 106-58, on Nov. 6. Both games were at home. The Kangaroos host Northwest Missouri State in their regular season opener on Nov. 11.
Three 'Roos finished in double figures against Harding, led by Dayon Hall-Jones with 17 points. Ashli Hill and LeAndrea Thomas had 15 and 12 points, respectively. Hill had a team-high seven rebounds.
Against Park, Hall-Jones scored 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting. Kaycie Boyles came off the bench to score eight points and grab a game-high six rebounds.
