Men’s Golf Tied for 4th at Husky Intercollegiate

Freshman Preston Stanley tied for 13th to lead Huskies.

Freshman Andy Ariens and the Huskies are tied for fourth at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate.
Day 1 Results

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Houston Baptist University freshman Preston Stanley opened with a 74, then fired a season-low even-par 71 and is tied for 13th to lead the Huskies, who are tied for fourth after the first day of the HBU Husky Intercollegiate Monday at the Quail Valley El Dorado Golf Course.
 
HBU freshman Brandon Wilhide is tied for 15th at 147 with scores of 74 and 73, while freshman Andy Ariens tied for 22nd at 148 with rounds of 73 and 75. Freshman Jeffrey Merrell started strong with a 73, but shot an 80 in the second round and is tied for 35th at 153. Senior Mark Slater is tied for 41st at 154 after posting scores of 80 and 74.
 
The Huskies also have four players competing individually, with sophomore Jonathan Marek tied for 33rd at 152, shooting 77 and 75. Senior Ian Armstrong posted back-to-back rounds of 77 and is tied for 41st at 154. Junior Hudson Hansard is tied for 47th at 159, carding a 77 and an 82, while senior Andrew Rollins is 52nd at 172, shooting 84 and 88.
 
Texas A&M's Greg Yates fired a course-record 5-under par 66 in the first round, then followed with a 68 to hold the individual lead at 8-under par 134. Nicholls State's Kristjan Einarsson is two strokes back at 136, with rounds of 67 and 69, while Houston's Jesse Droemer is three strokes behind at 137 with rounds of 67 and 70.
 
The Aggies lead the tournament overall with a 36-hole total of 560, 20 strokes ahead of Stephen F. Austin and 24 ahead of McNeese State. HBU is tied with Louisiana-Monroe at 587, four strokes ahead of Nicholls State. Texas-Pan American is seventh at 592, and Florida Atlantic rounds out the field at 598.
 
The tournament concludes with the final round Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
