Edinburg - On Sunday afternoon, the HBU volleyball team took down Great West Conference rival University of Texas-Pan American three sets to one (25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22).
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead early and never let up during the first set. In a close second set, UTPA led 14-13 before HBU went on a six-point run for a 19-14 lead. The Lady Broncs closed it to 23-22 before HBU put it away with the next two points. The Huskies led much of the next set and held a 22-20 lead but could not hold it as UTPA scored the next five points for its only set win of the match. The final match was another close one, with a 19-19 tie before HBU scored four-straight and won by three.
Senior Jessica Barrera recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs, leading the team in both categories. Alexis Forsythe, a freshman, reached double-digits in kills for the third time this season with 10. Natalie Magat dished out nine assists and Megan Klimitchek finished with nine kills and 16 digs.
HBU totaled nine blocks as a team and hit at a .147 clip. The Huskies held UTPA to a .092 hitting percentage.
The Huskies return to Houston for their next match across town from HBU at Texas Southern on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 pm.
