VB: Huskies finish off sweep of Louisiana Tech Tournament

HCU caps a perfect weekend with a 3–1 win over the host Lady Techsters in Ruston

RUSTON, La. – Houston Christian wrapped up play at the Louisiana Tech Tournament on Saturday with a 3–1 victory over the host Lady Techsters. The Huskies closed out the weekend 3–0, sweeping ULM, topping Jackson State in four sets, and finishing with a strong win over Louisiana Tech in the final match.

The opening frame was a back-and-forth battle featuring long rallies and late ties. HCU pushed ahead behind kills from Hannah Redrow and Taylor Bonner-Williams, but Louisiana Tech stayed close and forced extra points. The Huskies held their ground and sealed the first set, 28–26.

Louisiana Tech responded quickly in the second set, capitalizing on Husky errors and steady play at the net. Despite HCU closing the gap midway through, the Lady Techsters held on late to even the match with a 25–22 win.

Momentum shifted again in the third set as HCU jumped ahead early, fueled by strong defense and Redrow's finishing at the pin. Louisiana Tech tied the set late, but key blocks and kills allowed the Huskies to edge it out, 26–24, regaining the match lead.

The fourth set stayed tight throughout, with neither side leading by more than two points. Bonner-Williams and Katy Barger delivered timely kills, while Joya Euhus and Peyton Fadal came up with important plays at the net. HCU closed the match 25–23 to secure the 3–1 win and finish the tournament unbeaten.

The Huskies (5–5, 0–0 SLC) had a quartet of players notch double-figure kills, led by Redrow with 16. Bonner-Williams had 15, Barger had 11 and Jade Smith rounded out the group with 10.

One day after setting a career high with 40 assists against Jackson State, Peyton Fadal bested that mark with 42 assists to pace the offensive attack. Anna Melgren led a strong back row effort with 13 digs, while Bianca Byerly and Bonner-Williams adde nine apiece.

Hannah Redrow was named Tournament MVP after averaging 3.0 kills per game over the three matches. Peyton Fadal (9.5 assists per game) and Anna Melgren (3.1 digs per) also picked up All-Tournament honors.

HCU returns to action next weekend when it travels just up 45-North to Huntsville to play a trio of matches in the Sam Houston State Tournament. The Huskies will take on the host Bearkats on Thursday, followed by a match with ULM on Friday and a tilt with Georgia State on Saturday.
