HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Houston Christian volleyball returns to action this weekend at the Sam Houston Tournament following a strong showing at the Louisiana Tech Tournament, where the Huskies went 3–0 with wins over ULM, Jackson State, and Louisiana Tech.
HCU (5–5) opens play Thursday night against host Sam Houston (6–4), a team coming off two wins at the Islanders Classic, including a five-set victory over A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bearkats are led offensively by Chloe Monson with 172 kills, while Avery Fowler directs the attack with 317 assists.
The Huskies will see a familiar opponent Friday afternoon in ULM (8–4). HCU swept the Warhawks in straight sets last weekend, but ULM has since added back-to-back home wins over Alcorn State and Lamar. Aniya Hall leads ULM with 174 kills, and setter Morgan Howard paces the team with 261 assists and 30 aces.
HCU closes the tournament Saturday against Georgia State (7–2). The Panthers enter play after facing Florida State in the ACC/SBC Challenge. Nazli Guvener leads Georgia State with 93 kills, while Marta Lazzarin anchors the defense with 178 digs.
Through 10 matches, the Huskies are hitting .173 as a team and are led by
Allana Archie with 81 kills, while
Peyton Fadal has dished out 217 assists.
Bianca Byerly has a team-best 15 service aces, and
Anna Melgren leads the back row with 93 digs.
Following the weekend in Huntsville, HCU will begin Southland Conference play Sept. 25 at Texas A&M–Commerce.
