T&F: HCU Finishes Strong at SLC’s with Four Podium Finishes

Marais & Aureau earn gold on day three of Conference Championships

Nacogdoches, TX – Day three of the 2026 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships took place on May 16, and HCU capitalized to take home four podium finishes. 
 
After qualifying for finals in the men's 100m hurdles, SJ Marais took home gold in the finals, crossing the line at 13.78, breaking the school record he previously set on day two while also earning a new PR. 
 
Raphael Aureau also earned a first-place finish in the finals of the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.45. 
 
In the field events, Joshua Gillis-Harry leaped to a second-place finish in the men's triple jump, with a mark of 15.64m/51-3.75. 
 
Freshman Julius Malone cleared a height of 2.11m/6-11 in the men's high jump to claim second place. 
 
Fellow freshman Rayhan Mourtada clocked a time of 51.00 in the finals of the men's 400m hurdles, also earning a new PR in the event. 
 
On the women's side, Chimaoge Nwokedi cleared a height of 1.67m/5-5.75 in the high jump, good enough for a sixth-place finish.
