BSB: Huskies Face Sam Houston to Close Regular Season

HCU and the Bearkats face off in Huntsville ahead of SLC Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HCU baseball travels north on I-45 for the Huskies' regular season finale against the Sam Houston Bearkats on Tuesday evening at Don Sanders Stadium at 6:00 p.m.

The Huskies (22-27) earned their berth to the 2026 Southland Conference Tournament this past Sunday, May 10, with a 9-5 victory over Lamar at Husky Field. HCU scored nine runs on just five hits in defeating the Cardinals, in large part, on the back of a pair of grand slams from Jack Walker and Luke Bard. On the mound, David Lopez pitched three innings with two earned runs allowed with Louis Castano following up with three earned runs allowed across five innings while striking out a career-high nine hitters. Ben Norton then tossed a scoreless ninth.

The Bearkats (23-29) head into Tuesday's game fresh off a three-game sweep of Delaware at Don Sanders Stadium that assured them of a spot in the 2026 Conference USA Tournament. Redshirt junior infielder Ryan Franden continues to lead Sam Houston with a .555 slugging percentage thanks to 19 extra-base hits, including eight home runs. The Bearkats own a 6.26 team ERA.

The two teams met at Husky Field on Feb. 17 with the Bearkats escaping with a 4-3 win. The Huskies trailed by two after six innings but scored two runs on three hits in the seventh to tie things up at 3-3. Three-straight hits in the top of the eighth set the Bearkats up for an RBI walk for the 4-3 final.

HCU heads to Hammond, La. following Tuesday's game to take on top-seeded Southeastern in the Hammond Bracket of the SLC Tournament at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.
