Houston Christian University hosts Nicholls State University in the penultimate home series of the season when the two teams face off this weekend at Husky Field. The two schools are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4 pm with the series finale on the docket for Saturday at noon.

The Huskies will be playing their first series since Head Coach Mary-Ellen Hall announced her retirement from coaching on Tuesday afternoon, signaling the end of her 35-year tenure at the helm of her alma mater. With the program since its inception in 1989, Hall took the reins in 1992 after three years as an assistant and has amassed 927 wins to date, which is 29th amongst active coaches across all NCAA ranks. She will step out of the dugout at season's end, but will continue on at HCU in her current role of Senior Woman Administrator, which she has served as since 2009.

HCU has been off since last weekend, when they dropped all three games of the Easter weekend series to longtime rival University of the Incarnate Word. HCU enters the weekend series at 5-30 overall and 2-13 in the Southland and are looking to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Maddy Bailey raised her batting average nearly 100 points after returning to the lineup after missing the six-game week of the UTSA game and the Bearkat Invitational in February. She posted her fourth career three-hit game vs. UTEP (2/27) and then went 5-10 with three RBI in the three-game set against Northwestern State. She leads the team in batting average (.278), multi-hit games (6)and runs (10) and is tied for the team-lead in hits, doubles, triples and multi-hit games.

Chloe Foster hit her first career homer in game two against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and she leads the team with 13 RBI.  Jocelyn Briseno had her first career four-hit game in the 8-6 victory over Prairie View A&M at the Bearkat Invitational (2/21).

Madison Dominguez had a 12-game hitting streak and 13-game stretch of safely reaching the bags earlier in the season, snapped at SLU. Dominguez ranks second in batting average (.265) and she is tied for the team lead in hits with 22 while drawing a team-high 14 free passes to post a club-best .378 on-base percentage. Dominguez paces the club on the basepaths as well with 10 stolen bases.

Addy Prasifka has 20 strikeouts over her last 22 innings of work. She has tied her personal best with six K's against both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3/21) and Stephen F. Austin (3/28). Jade Moreno has set new career-bests with four homers and eight RBI.

HCU and Nicholls have met 39 times overall with the Colonels holding a 30-9 lead in the all-time series. Nicholls has won six of the last eight, including a three-game sweep at home and a 5-4 win in the SLC Tournament last year.

Ron Frost is in his second season at the helm in Thibodaux after serving three seasons as an assistant coach. His club comes into the weekend tied for third in the Southland Conference with a 10-5 mark, sitting at 22-16 overall on the season. NSU is coming off a three-game sweep of East Texas A&M, defeating the Lions 9-1, 8-0 and 8-0.

The Colonels are led offensively by Claire Sisco, a senior utility player who was a 1st-team All-SLC selection last year. She comes in with a team-best .364 batting average and also leads the club in runs (35) and stolen bases (24). Madison Moak, a senior outfielder, is batting .358 with a team-high five homers and 26 RBI, while senior outfielder Reagan Heflin, a 2nd-team All-SLC choice last year, bats .301 and paces the squad with 29 RBI.

The pitching staff features two senior southpaws in Molly Yoo and Averi Paden. Yoo is 11-8 with a 3.16 ERA and 76 K's in 113 innings. Paden is 5-3 with a 3.74 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.

Following the weekend trio of games with Nicholls, the Huskies will head out for a brutal six-games in five days stretch on the road, as the Southland Conference sees its only mid-week series week of the slate for all teams. HCU will head to Lake Charles, Louisiana looking to corral the Cowgirls of McNeese State University on Tuesday and Wednesday before trekking up to Commerce to take on East Texas A&M University next weekend.
