HOUSTON – HCU baseball, fresh off another Southland Conference series win this past weekend, is set to host Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern in a pair of midweek games this Tuesday and Wednesday at Husky Field.
The Huskies (18-21) took two-of-three at home this past weekend against SLC opponent New Orleans, out-scoring the visitors by a 24-13 margin. Senior outfielder
Preston Curtis batted .400 (4-for-10) on the weekend, belting his fifth home run along with a triple and a double. He drove in four runs and scored three. He is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak.
Senior third baseman
Jeremy Rader, currently leading HCU with 29 RBI, has been excellent at the plate when hitting with runners on third and less than two outs. In 19 opportunities, Rader has come up with 11 base hits.
Prairie View A&M (7-31) has lost its last five games, including a 13-7 loss to Stephen F. Austin in Prairie View, Texas on Tuesday, Apr. 14. Freshman Ryland Duson leads the Panthers with a .361 batting average, 32 RBI and 27 runs scored. Prairie View's pitching staff has a team ERA of 10.15. Kenneth Haynes leads the team with 33 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched while Beau Beaty leads the team with two wins on the mound.
Texas Southern (18-15) has gone 6-3 since last facing the Huskies on Mar. 31, a game HCU won 24-4 at Husky Field. The Tigers are currently third in the SWAC standings. Miguel Morales, a senior catcher, is hitting a team-high .408 for the Tigers. Justin Mayes, a senior, has thrown a team-high 43.1 innings this season and owns a 3.32 ERA with a 5-1 record on the mound.
Following the two mid-week games, the Huskies will travel to Hammond, La. for a three-game series against second-place Southeastern from Friday through Sunday, Apr. 24-26.
