SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Houston Christian women's golf team held on to the top spot on the leaderboard after 36 holes of play at the 2026 Southland Conference Championship on Monday, sitting at 3-over par through two rounds at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas. The Huskies will enter Wednesday's final round with a one-shot lead over second-place UTRGV, which sits at 4-over.
After a dominant opening round of 4-under, Houston Christian had a tougher day in Round 2, posting a 7-over 79 as a team. Despite the slight step back, the Huskies remain at the top heading into the final 18 holes. Incarnate Word sits third at 13-over, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is fourth at 21-over. Lamar and East Texas A&M are fifth and sixth at 27-over and 29-over, respectively, with Stephen F. Austin sitting seventh at 70-over.
Sara Pihlajamaki continued to lead the way for Houston Christian, shooting an even-par 72 in the second round to maintain her position atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under for the tournament. The Finland native has been rock solid through two rounds, posting back-to-back consistent performances to keep the Huskies in contention.
Alyssa Stewart matched Pihlajamaki with an even-par 72 in Round 2 as well, sitting at 2-under for the tournament and holding second place in the individual standings. The two Huskie leaders have been the backbone of Houston Christian's strong showing through 36 holes.
Alejandra Ferrer had a 3-over 75 in the second round, putting her at 4-over for the tournament and tied for 10th place individually. Natcha Makmanee posted a 4-over 76 to also sit at 4-over for the championship, also tied for 10th.
Hailey Hendershott had a 5-over 77 in Round 2 to finish at 6-over through two rounds, sitting 18th in the individual standings. Substitute
Serena Churchill also saw action in Round 2 but did not factor into the team score.
With a one-shot lead and two of their players sitting in the top two spots individually, the Huskies are in an excellent position to make a run at the Southland Conference Championship title when the final round tees off Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m.
