JONESBORO, Ark. — The Houston Christian men's golf team posted a strong opening day at the Arkansas State Intercollegiate on Monday, sitting in second place after 36 holes of play at RidgePointe Country Club. The huskies finished the day at 3-under par, trailing only host Arkansas State, which sits at 20-under.
Mason Napier was the standout performer for Houston Christian, turning in back-to-back impressive rounds to sit at 6-under par through 36 holes, good for second place in the individual standings. The Paris, Texas native fired a 71 in the opening round before following it up with a 67 in Round 2, moving up to second on the leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round.
Brendon Willey also had a strong day for the huskies, finishing the day at 3-under overall after carding rounds of 70 and 71.
Brooks Pawlak sits at even par through two rounds after posting a 69 and a 75.
Cooper Camp and
Roy Barrera each finished the day at 6-over par with matching rounds of 74-76 and 74-76, respectively.
Tyler Joines competed as an individual, finishing at 7-over after rounds of 76 and 75.
The Huskies will return to RidgePointe Country Club on Tuesday for the final round, with split tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m. Houston Christian tees off alongside Southeastern Louisiana and Arkansas State, with Barrera leading off at 8:41 a.m., followed by Camp at 8:49, Pawlak at 8:57, Willey at 9:05 and Napier at 9:13. Joines will tee off from hole 10 at 7:45 a.m. as an individual.
