Houston Christian University steps out of Southland Conference play for a Tuesday tilt against cross-town foe Texas Southern University on Tuesday evening. The game, originally scheduled to be played at Memorial Park, will now be played at Husky Field with TSU as the home team.

HCU dropped the rubber game to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, falling 6-2 as the Islanders claimed the series at Husky Field. After a pair of pitching gems on Friday by Cara Pitman and Leah Hammack, the Huskies saw the Islanders put three on the board in the first frame and six over the first three innings.

Mary-Ellen Hall is now in her 35th season with her alma mater, and her Huskies are now 5-23 overall and 2-6 in Southland action on the season.

Maddy Bailey leads the team with a .311 batting average, having raised it 100 points since returning to the lineup after the six-game week of the UTSA game and the Bearkat Invitational. She posted her fourth career three-hit game vs. UTEP (2/27) and then went 5-10 with three RBI in the three-game set against Northwestern State.

Madison Dominguez had a 12-game hitting streak and 13-game stretch of safely reaching the bags earlier in the season, snapped at SLU. She is currently second on the team in batting at .303 while leading the team with 20 hits and nine stolen bases.

Chloe Foster hit her first career homer in game two against TAMUCC and she now leads the team with 13 RBI.  Jocelyn Briseno had her first career four-hit game in the 8-6 victory over Prairie View A&M at the Bearkat Invitational (2/21) and is second on the team in runs scored (8) and RBI (8).

The Huskies and Islanders have met 54 times over the years, with TAMUCC holding a 31-23 lead. Corpus Christi took two of three on the island last season, splitting the Friday twin-bill before TAMUCC captured the series with a 5-3 Saturday victory. The two teams have played to a 9-9 stalemate over the past five seasons, with HCU winning all three games the two have played each other in the postseason.

Pitman went the distance in game one on Friday against TAMUCC, allowing six hits and fanning a career-high four in the 3-1 loss. Hammack went the full way in game two, allowing six hits and just one run in her second victory of the season.

HCU and TSU have met 67 times over the years, the third-most played series in school history. Raven Rodriguez is in her fifth full season at the helm on Cleburne Street following an interim season in 2021. She has the Tigers at 17-6 overall on the campaign, including a 7-2 mark in the SWAC.

Sophomore Kylie Wilson leads the Tigers at the plate, basepaths and the circle. She leads the team with a .439 batting average, 25 hits and 10 stolen bases. The southpaw also sits at 5-0 on the season with a 3.57 ERA and 39 K's in 35.1 innings pitched.

Sophomore utility player Jade McQueen is batting .377 with three homers and 15 RBI while junior infielder Karisma Garcia hits at a .269 clip with three dingers and a team-high 19 RBI.

After the single game with TSU, the Huskies finish off what now has become a seven-game stay on home turf when it returns to conference action in a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin State University over the weekend.
