Houston Christian University begins a stretch of six games in the next seven on the home diamond when it hosts rival Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for a three-game series at Husky Field. The two teams will play a twin-bill on Friday beginning at 4 pm with the series finale set for Saturday at noon.

The Huskies ran into a buzzsaw last weekend in Hammond, dropping all three games of the series with two-time defending SLC tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana. HCU fell 8-0 and 19-0 on Friday before a 13-3 defeat on Saturday gave the Lions their first sweep in the series since 2013.

In the series finale, HCU looked poised to bounce back from Friday's sweep. SLU jumped out front 1-0 in the first, but in the second, the Huskies would manufacture a crooked number. Jade Moreno and Heidi Maytum drew consecutive walks to begin the frame. Raenna Liscano then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the throw to third was off, allowing pinch-runner Tayden Alexander to score all the way from second base.

Karlie Barba walked to load the bases, and one out later, Ella Herrewig reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Maytum to score the second run of the inning. Madison Dominguez then pulled a ball to the right side to score Liscano and give HCU a 3-1 advantage. The lead was short-lived however, as the Lions roared back with three in their half before a game-deciding nine-spot in the fourth.

Mary-Ellen Hall is now in her 35th season with her alma mater, and her Huskies are now 4-21 overall and 1-5 in Southland action on the season.

Maddy Bailey has raised her batting average to .340 since returning to the lineup after the six-game week of the UTSA game and the Bearkat Invitational. Sitting at .217 prior, Bailey has since batted safely in eight of 11 games (.433 average) which includes her fourth career three-hit game vs. UTEP (2/27) and a 5-10 showing with three RBI in the three-game set against Northwestern State. She then went 1-7 in the three games at Southeastern.

Madison Dominguez went 0-3 and failed to reach base in the first game against SLU on Friday, snapping her 12-game hitting streak and a 13-game stretch of safely reaching the bags. She enters the weekend set with TAMUCC second on the club in batting at .328 while leading the team in hits (19) and stolen bases (8).

Chloe Foster is batting .246 and paces the Huskies with 10 RBI.  Jocelyn Briseno had her first career four-hit game in the 8-6 victory over Prairie View A&M at the Bearkat Invitational (2/21). She is currently second on the club in runs scored (7) and RBI (8).

The Huskies and Islanders have met 54 times over the years, with TAMUCC holding a 31-23 lead. Corpus Christi took two of three on the island last season, splitting the Friday twin-bill before TAMUCC captured the series with a 5-3 Saturday victory. The two teams have played to a 9-9 stalemate over the past five seasons, with HCU winning all three games the two have played each other in the postseason.

Mark Montgomery is in his first season on the island and has the 'Ders at 8-21 overall and 2-4 in the Southland after taking two of three from East Texas A&M last weekend in Corpus.

Skylar Heger headlines the offense, as the senior first baseman leads the club with a .319 batting average, two homers and 17 RBI. The Islanders have three players with a homer and 10 RBI in senior infieler Mimi Thornton, sophomore infielder Taylor Reyes and junior shortstop Karisa Lopez. Senior catcher Zoey Stewart paces the club on the basepaths with 11 stolen bases.

Kendra Winfrey, a junior southpaw, is 5-7 on the season over 21 appearances in the circle, 12 as the starter. Sophomore right-hander Josie Whitehead is 3-7 in 16 appearances for the Islanders.

The Friday doubleheader will be available on ESPN+, while Saturday's game will be Live Stats only.

HCU's next seven games are all in the city. After the three-game set with TAMUCC, the Huskies will make the short trip across town for a Tuesday tilt at Texas Southern University before returning home next weekend with a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin State University.
