HOUSTON -- The Houston Christian women's golf team hosted the Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land on March 9–10, finishing second in a competitive 16-team field with a three-round total of 886 (+22). Louisville captured the team title at +9, while the Huskies held off Tarleton State (+23) and Austin Peay State (+24) to secure the runner-up finish on their home course.
HCU opened the tournament with a +7 team score in the first round before improving to +2 in the second round, positioning the Huskies firmly in contention entering the final day. The team posted a +13 score in the final round to close out the event and secure second place overall, finishing one stroke ahead of Tarleton State and two strokes ahead of Austin Peay State.
Senior
Alyssa Stewart led the Huskies individually, finishing sixth overall with a three-round total of 217 (+1). Stewart recorded rounds of 74 (+2), 68 (-4), and 75 (+3). Her second-round 68 was one of the lowest rounds of the tournament and helped propel HCU up the leaderboard entering the final day. Stewart's steady play included multiple birdies throughout the event, keeping her among the tournament leaders across all three rounds.
Hailey Hendershott finished tied for 12th overall with a total score of 221 (+5). Hendershott posted rounds of 74 (+2), 72 (E), and 75 (+3), delivering consistent scoring throughout the tournament and helping stabilize the Huskies' lineup across all three rounds.
Alejandra Ferrer placed tied for 35th with a three-round total of 228 (+12). Ferrer opened the tournament with a 75 (+3), followed by a 78 (+6) in the second round before rebounding with a strong 75 (+3) in the final round, one of HCU's counting scores during the closing round.
Natcha Makmanee finished tied for 23rd overall with a total score of 224 (+8). Makmanee recorded rounds of 73 (+1), 75 (+3), and 76 (+4) across the tournament, contributing solid scores during the first two rounds as the Huskies built their position on the leaderboard.
Abigail O'Brien rounded out the Huskies' scoring lineup, finishing tied for 31st with a three-round total of 227 (+11). O'Brien posted rounds of 73 (+1), 76 (+4), and 78 (+6) over the two-day event.
HCU also had individual competitors in the field.
Sara Pihlajamaki recorded a total score of 219 (+3) to finish tied for eighth overall as an individual, highlighted by steady rounds of 72, 73, and 74.
Serena Churchill finished with a three-round total of 221 (+5), while
Abigail Inocian posted a total score of 228 (+12) across the tournament.
Louisville claimed the team championship with a total score of +9, led by consistent team scoring across all three rounds. Tarleton State finished third at +23, followed closely by Austin Peay State at +24 and Delaware at +25 to round out the top five.
