T&F: Huskies Split Squads Compete in Arkansas and Houston

HCU impresses at both meets with multiple podium finishes



Fayetteville, Ark. - The HCU track & field team competed as a split squad with student-athletes in two states on Saturday as one contingent made their way to the home of the Razorbacks to compete in the Woo Pig Classic at the Randal Tyson Track Center while other stayed local for the FasTrak Collegiate Classic in town at the UH Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
In Arkansas, teammates Ashton Munoz-Nieves and SJ Marais both qualified for the final in the men's 60m hurdles with times of 8.01 and 8.04, respectively, with Marais' mark a new PR. In the finals, Munoz-Nieves tied his personal best 7.93 and claimed a third overall finish.
 
Destiny Quintanilla claimed third overall in the women's 3000 meters with a time of 10:10.92 while in the men's 3000m, Kolby Kurtz ran a new PR with a time of 8:34.47 to place second. In the men's 800m, senior Raphael Aureau placed first overall, running a time of 1:50.98
 
In the pits, Layloni Watson soared to a new PR in the women's triple jump while also taking home a victory, jumping a 12.84m/42-1.5. In the men's triple jump, junior Dadrian Calhoun claimed a fourth-place finish with a mark of 15.32m/50-3.25.

In Houston, meanwhile, the Huskies kept the momentum going at Yeoman Fieldhouse in the FasTrak Classic.

In the jumps, freshman Julius Malone jumped a new PR and season best with a mark of 2.00m/6-06.75,

Storm Evans threw a new PR in the women's shot put, claiming a second-place finish with a mark of 13.17m/43-2.50. Teammate Taylor Brown also grabbed a new PR and a fourth-place finish with a throw of 12.32m/40-5.00.

On the track, Zanashia Harris placed second in the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:17.76. On the men's side, Antoine Tshimanga claimed a victory in the 800m, running a time of 1:53.92.

The women's DMR team of Harris, Anouk Verdaasdonk, Jazlynn Estrada, and Cara Gary came in second with a time of 12:49.35.

The men's 4x400m team comprised of Rayhan Mourtada, Humza Baig, Bryce Lloyd, and Tristen Listi ran an impressive 3:20.28 on their way to first overall.
 
The Huskies will be back in Houston next week for the Howie Ryan Invitational at UH's Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday, Feb. 13.
