BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The HCU track & field squad has its sights set on the Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25.
On the track,
Ashton Munoz-Nieves followed a great 2025 outdoor season by posting a PR and conference-leading 7.86 in the men's 60m hurdles this indoor season.
Senior
Raphael Aureau has continued HCU's recent success in middle distance this indoor season, posting the third-best mark in the SLC in the men's 800m (1:50.98) and the seventh-best time in the mile (4:07.27).
In the field events, the Huskies have posted a number of top marks in the conference. Newcomer
Layloni Watson set a new school record in the women's triple jump (12.84m/42-1.5) while also posting the fourth-best mark in the conference (5.71m/18-9) in the long jump. Watson's triple jump mark also ranks in the top 50 in the country. In the women's high jump, teammates
Chimaoge Nwokedi (1.70m/5-7) and
Angela Hindes (1.65m/5-5) own the third and sixth-best marks this season.
In the men's jumps,
Dadrian Calhoun ranks second in the triple jump with a mark of 15.48m/50-9.5.
Julius Malone (2.00m/6-6.75) and
Balvin Israel (7.15m/23-5.5) both rank seventh this season in their respective events, the high jump and long jump.
Day one of the Southland Conference Championships kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 8:30 AM, and day two resumes on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 9:40 AM. Both days will be streamed live on ESPN+.
