HCU aims to build on its three-game sweep of Alcorn this past weekend

HOUSTON – HCU and Rice baseball are set to meet in the first of two games scheduled between the two teams this season on Tuesday evening at Reckling Park at 6:35 p.m.

HCU (3-5) swept Alcorn State at Husky Field this past weekend, outscoring the Braves by a combined 31-6. Senior first baseman Katcher Halligan enters Tuesday's game on a four-game hitting streak after posting a .462 average in HCU's game last week with two multi-hit games, two doubles, four RBI, three runs scored a pair of stolen bases.

Junior infielder Anthony Avalos is currently pacing the Huskies with a .409 average at the plate with three multi-hit games in seven games played. Three different players, Halligan, Tyree Jackson and Jack Walker, have all reached base safely at least once in some form or fashion in all eight HCU games this season.

The Owls (3-5), meanwhile, lost all three games to USC on a road trip to southern California this past weekend after earning a mid-week win over Purdue last Wednesday. So far this season, Rice is 3-2 at Reckling Park.

Junior infielder JC Davis is off to a strong start for Rice, leading the team with a .448 batting average with three home runs and three doubles through eight games. The Weatherford College transfer has hit safely in seven of eight games with five multi-hit games.

Following Tuesday night's matchup, the Huskies will return home to open Southland Conference play with a three-game series against the UIW Cardinals at Husky Field from Friday through Sunday, Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
