HOUSTON – HCU football looks to remain undefeated at home on Saturday evening when the Huskies host East Texas A&M for a Southland Conference matchup as the second half of the 2026 season begins at 6:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium. Saturday's game is an Orange Out game, presented by Irma's Southwest, with the first 100 fans receiving an Orange Out t-shirt.

The Huskies (3-3, 2-1 SLC) had a bye last weekend after a dominating defensive performance in their 16-2 win over Nicholls on Oct. 3. The HCU defense didn't allow the Colonels offense to put any points on the board while forcing a pair of turnovers that included a pick-six by Javon Bejarano. Mike Sylvalie recorded a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss in the win and leads the SLC with five sacks on the year.

Through the first half of the season, HCU has been among the nation's best with a +5 turnover margin. The Huskies have forced 15 fumbles already this season, eight more than anyone else in the conference, and have eight fumble recoveries for the second-highest total in the FCS.

Offensively, running back Champ Dozier racked up 144 all-purpose yards with 85 yards on 15 carries while also hauling in six catches for 59 yards with 52 of those yards after the catch. Jamaal Hall II had five receptions for 59 yards.

East Texas A&M (2-4, 2-2 SLC) is 0-4 on the road this season with a 2-0 record on home turf. The Lions also had their bye last weekend after a 20-17 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley on a 51-yard Ozlo Rigby field goal as time expired. The running back tandem of Quay Middlebrooks and Major McBride combined for 113 yards on the ground with McBride scoring twice.

The Lions have used four quarterbacks this season with Eric Rodriguez at the top of the depth chart, completing 55.7 percent (44-of-79) of his passes for 631 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions. Micah Simpson leads the receivers with 30 receptions for 394 yards and two scores. Middlebrooks has been the feature back for ETAM, carrying the ball 63 times for 307 yards and one touchdown.

Each of the last three games between the Huskies and Lions has been decided by one score with the home team coming out on top. Last year, ETAM came out on top, 37-32. The last time the two teams played at Husky Stadium was 2023 when HCU earned a 17-13 victory.

HCU will return to the road the following two weekends, first heading east on I-10 to take on Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 24, before a Halloween matchup against Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches on the 31st.
