WBB: HCU Continues Four-Game Homestand Saturday Against East Texas A&M

The Huskies aim to snap a seven-game losing skid

HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team continues its four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Huskies host Southland Conference foe East Texas A&M at 1:00 p.m. inside Sharp Gym.

The Huskies (4-11, 2-6 SLC) are looking to snap a seven-game losing skid. On Thursday evening, the Huskies forced second-place Northwestern State into 22 turnovers while committing just 11 but were undone by a tough shooting night that saw HCU connect on just 4-of-31 from behind the arc as the Lady Demons left with a 67-57 victory. Junior Jordan Jackson posted her third double-double of the season, finishing the night with 19 points and 11 rebounds to raise her season averages to 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She now ranks third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding.

HCU has been active defensively all season, generating 9.8 steals per outing while forcing nearly 19 turnovers per game. The Huskies will look to continue that pressure against an East Texas A&M (7-8, 3-5 SLC) team that ranks second in the league at 16 turnovers per game.

The Lions are paced by Tiani Ellison, who leads the team with 14.3 points per game, and Reza Po, who adds 13.5 points and shoots 40 percent from three. ETAMU averages 67.0 points per game and ranks among the SLC leaders in assists. On the boards, the Lions own a season rebounding margin of -6.8 while HCU comes in at -1.3.

The Huskies earned a 62–56 win over East Texas A&M in last season's meeting at Sharp Gym. ETAMU leads the all-time series, however, 5-1.

Following Saturday's game, HCU continues its homestand next week by hosting UIW on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 6:00 p.m. and UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
