MANHATTAN, Kan. – Houston Christian men's golf completed the first round and began the second round of the Wildcat Invitational on Monday at Colbert Hills Golf Course. The Huskies currently stand tied for fifth at +11 after Round 1, with Round 2 suspended due to weather conditions.
Brooks Pawlak is leading the tournament with an opening-round 72 (E). He went out in 35, fueled by birdies on Nos. 6 and 7, and returned in 37, posting an even-par round. In Round 2, Pawlak added red numbers at 11, 16, and 18, closing in 33 on the back nine and posting a 51 through 13 holes. He sits at -2 overall and holds first place individually heading into Tuesday's finish.
Carter Patterson opened with a 75 (+3). After a rough start, he steadied himself with a birdie on No. 1 and another on No. 12 on the back nine, signing for nines of 40–35. Patterson carried that momentum into Round 2, playing consistent golf with birdies at Nos. 5, 13, and 16, balancing out a double bogey. He finished with a 37 on the back nine and stands at +3 overall, in 32nd place.
Mason Napier finished Round 1 at 77 (+5). He went out in 40, recording birdies on holes 7 and 13. Round 2 proved more challenging, though he managed a birdie at No. 16. Napier will resume play at +8 overall.
Julian Worrell posted a 78 (+6) in Round 1. He went out in 38 and battled on the back nine with birdies at Nos. 12 and 18 to shoot 40. In Round 2, Worrell bounced back, making birdies at Nos. 11 and 15 while turning in a strong 29 on the back nine after a 25 on the front. His 54 in Round 2 leaves him at +5 overall, in 48th place.
Brendon Willey closed Round 1 with an 80 (+8), also sitting in 48th place. He turned in a 42 on the front nine before recovering with a birdie on No. 10 to shoot 38 on the back. Willey responded well in Round 2, birdieing Nos. 1 and 16.
As a team, Houston Christian posted 299 (+11) in Round 1 and currently sits tied for fifth with Drake. Kansas State leads the event at -2. Round 2 will resume Tuesday due to a thunderstorm, with shotguns scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Houston Christian will tee off against Bradley University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha starting at 1:00 p.m. Other groups at the same time will also feature Houston Christian competing alongside these universities across the remaining holes.
