MGOLF: HCU earns GCAA Team Academic Awards

Huskies earn Presidents Special Recognition; honored with team award for third straight season, sixth overall

NORMAN, Okla. – HCU men's golf was one of 75 NCAA Division I programs to earn Presidents Special Recognition along with the PLATFORM Team Academic Award presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.

Schools are honored as Team Academic Award recipients for carrying a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher while teams with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher are given the Presidents Special Recognition.

It is the third straight season for the Huskies to capture the Team Academic Award, and sixth time overall. HCU was one of three Southland schools to earn Presidents honors.

The team accolade comes on the heels of last week's announcement of the 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. HCU placed five golfers on that list as Roy Barrera, Mason Napier, Brooks Pawlak, Clayton Smith and Brandon Willey each earned the honors.

It was the second honor in the career of both Barrera and Napier. The five Huskies earn the distinction by virtue of maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, being at least a sophomore academically and owning a stroke average below 76 for the 2024-25 season.

HCU was one of just 24 teams nationally, and the lone squad from the Southland Conference, with at least five honorees.
