WSOC: Huskies Head to Beaumont to Face Lamar

HCU and Lamar played to a scoreless draw in Houston last year

BEAUMONT, Texas – The first Southland Conference road matchup of the 2025 season awaits the HCU women's soccer team this Thursday evening when the Huskies face the Lamar Cardinals at the LU Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.

HCU (5-4-1, 0-0-1 SLC) extended its unbeaten streak to four matches last Thursday, Sept. 18, with a 0-0 home draw against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Huskies won their prior three games, including two of those on the road.

In the draw vs. the Islanders, the Huskies out-shot the visitors by a 15-12 margin with four shots on goal to two by TAMUCC. Emmy McKeon made a pair of saves in goal to preserve the shutout for HCU. The sophomore now has six shutouts for her career which puts her at sixth on the program's career shutout list.

Lamar (3-4-3, 0-0-2 SLC) has played to a pair of 2-2 draws to open conference play. First, the Cardinals tied East Texas A&M, 2-2, at home before finishing with the same scoreline at UIW. In their final non-conference game, Lamar defeated NAIA-member Texas A&M-San Antonio, 11-0.

Four different players have scored in SLC play for Lamar while junior Lauren Smith leads the way with seven goals on the season. Four of those goals for Smith came vs. TAMUSA. Cena Carlson and Annaliese Switzer have each added three goals for the Cardinals. Freshman Eloise Bywater has played the majority of the minutes in goal with a 1.59 goals against average and a .708 save percentage.

HCU returns home to Sorrels Field on Sunday, Sept. 28, to face Northwestern State at 1:00 p.m.
