FB: Dansby Garners SLC Defensive Player of the Week Selection

The senior linebacker had a massive week four performance vs. Northern Colorado

FRISCO, Texas – Redshirt senior linebacker Rodney Dansby put on a defensive show on Saturday night against Northern Colorado, earning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Dansby filled up the stat sheet against the Bears with 18 tackles, an interception return for a touchdown, a forced fumble and two tackles for loss. His 18 tackles tie for the third-most in the FCS this season and ties for sixth-most in a single game in HCU history. He has now recorded at least 18 tackles in a game four times in his career. The interception was the second of his career.

His forced fumble came at a huge moment for the Huskies. HCU trailed 20-17 with less than four minute to play when Dansby burst into the backfield to tackle the UNC running back and jar the ball loose for a turnover and to set the Huskies up for a game-tying 50-yard field goal that evened the score and ultimately sent the game to overtime.

Dansby now stands at 385 career tackles with 20.5 TFLs, six pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions for his career. He is averaging 10.7 tackles per game for his career.

Dansby and the Huskies have a bye week during week five of the season before opening SLC play on Saturday, Oct. 4, at UT Rio Grande Valley.
